Hey y’all! This post is for all my spicy food lovers. And by spicy, I mean you when you are at a restaurant, you order the dish with 5 peppers beside the name. My Actual Fire Salsa is super easy with only 4 ingredients – Roma tomatoes, dried chiles de arbol, caldo de pollo, and oil. Sometimes I add some garlic powder at the end. It is up to you. Y’all I’m serious when I say this salsa is spicy as fuck. However, you can easily take this salsa from ‘Hellfire’ to ‘Weak Ass Bitch’ by reducing the number of peppers. And no, that is not judgement LOL. HOWEVER, what I provide you with today, is the medium. Also, this is not a deep spice, which means the spice sits on your tongue and does not linger. Chiles de arbol are hella spicy but they’re no habanero or pasilla. If you are in need of quick relief, turn to a dairy product. Milk works best, like cow’s milk. I cannot speak to the effectiveness of all the hipster milks like coconut, almond, or oat. Again, no judgement. Personally, I could not be more turned off by the idea of actual cow’s milk and I regularly consume almond milk. Alternatively, you can add some sour cream at the end if it really is just too hot for you to enjoy.
Actual Fire Salsa
- 6 Roma tomatoes
- 8 Chiles de arbol
- 1 tbsp Caldo de pollo (chicken bouillon powder)
- Oil – I use avocado but any is fine
Place tomatoes directly on a non stick skillet or griddle and turn the heat to med-high.

Let the tomatoes cook until charred on all side.

Put the tomatoes in a blender.

Remove the stems from the chiles de arbol. You can remove the seeds too if you want, but I don’t. Put them in a small saucepan and cover with a little oil. Turn the heat up to medium. Fry until they puff up and start to turn dark.

Pour peppers and oil into the blender with tomatoes. Add caldo de pollo and blend until totally smooth. Ta-da!

Wasn’t that easy? Roast, fry, blend, BOOM! Amazing salsa.
This stuff is great just with chips and/or tortillas. You can put it on your taco, burrito, nachos, salad, whatever. You know how you like your salsa. You can even throw it in the slow cooker with some chicken (be sure to add a little water though). Easy, delicious, but don’t say I didn’t warn y’all about that heat!
